Science Fair Success - Best in Otago

Mr B Duckett —

Columba College was once again well represented at the 2020 OSTA Science Fair.

This year, along with the usual Year 8 entries, we had a growing number of entries from the GATE Science Programme. This meant that there was a total of 25 students attending, coming away with 23 prizes from 14 projects. 2 projects were highly commended.

12 of the projects received a total of 17 awards. 2 projects received premiere awards.

1 project was awarded Best in Fair.

Huge congratulations going to Olivia Charles, Angela Fu, Chloe Heineke and Maia Robertson whose project ‘Mummifying Rats? Of Corpse’ was awarded the Best in Fair.
In this project the girls researched different methods of mummification and then prepared two rats and compared the effectiveness of the different methods.

It was very pleasing to see that students who attend the after school GATE Science Programme are being recognised by the judges for following their passion and interest in Science. A huge thank you goes to Mr Sparrow and Ms Lach, without whom the GATE Science programme would not be the success that it is.

The results for Columba College were:
