Te Ao Māori: Level 1

Administration —

This is the first year that NCEA Level 1 Te Reo will be offered at Columba College. As such, its final exact course outline will be decided early in 2025.

If numbers are sufficient to run this course, this class may focus on communicating in te Reo Māori.

Te reo Māori

Year 11 will deliver a broad range of language and vocabulary. Te reo Māori sits in Learning Languages, one of eight learning areas in The New Zealand Curriculum. This learning area “provides the framework for the teaching and learning languages that are additional to the language of instruction” (The New Zealand Curriculum, page 24). It emphasises the inseparable links between language, culture, and identity. As students learn te reo Māori, they also deepen their knowledge and understanding of tikanga Māori and develop their own personal, group, national, and human identities.
