Inaugural Summer Quad Exchange a huge success

Mrs G Beardmore —

Following many years of tradition and involvement in the Winter Quad Sports Exchange with St. Margaret's College (ChCh), Craighead Diocesan School (Timaru), and St. Hilda's Collegiate (Dunedin), for the first time ever this year Columba College was invited to join the long-standing Summer Quad Exchange along with Rangi Ruru College (ChCh). The exchange was a wonderful success, and all schools are excited about the opportunity this new programme now presents to students across a number of different sporting codes.

Hosted by St. Hilda's Collegiate School, Columba's first ever Summer Quad Sports Exchange was held in Dunedin from Sunday 12th - Tuesday 14th March, and involved two and a half days of fantastic sporting contest. Buzzing with colour, connection and competition, this exchange did not disappoint, and the return of the billeting system after a hiatus in recent years added to the overall success of this awesome school event.

Columba College was extremely proud to come away from the tournament in second place overall, after competing against very strong opposition in the codes of tennis, touch, volleyball and cricket. First place in the Touch competition and second place in Tennis cemented Columba's position on the leaderboard and helped to secure a well-deserved 2nd place ranking at the completion of the exchange. Coming second only to the high-quality St. Margaret's College from Christchurch, was certainly an achievement that the school can be very proud of!

Congratulations to Columba's MVP players of the tournament:

  • Tennis - Erin O'Neill (Year 13)
  • Volleyball - Sophie Tizard (Year 12)
  • Touch - Charli Sinclair (Year 11)
  • Cricket - Louisa Kotkamp (Year 13)

The final school placings at the completion of Summer Quad 2023 were:

  • 1st: St. Margaret's College
  • 2nd: Columba College
  • 3rd: St. Hilda's Collegiate School
  • 4th: Craighead Diocesan School
  • 5th: Rangi Ruru School

A huge thank you to all the coaches, managers, support staff, umpires, referees, and sideline supporters who helped to make the exchange possible and the big success that it was! Columba is always grateful for your support, and we now look forward to the Winter Quad exchange which will provide another great opportunity to showcase some of our winter sports codes. Well done, Columba College!
