Sports Awards
Sport is a large part of Columba College’s identity and we take pride in celebrating the achievements of our talented athletes. We have an extremely high participation rate of 89%, across the 30 sports we have on offer at Columba. As such, there is always a large group of athletes to recognise for their hard work and dedication to their chosen sport over the year.
Our annual Columba College Sports Awards will be on Thursday 24 October this year, and will be held in our school gymnasium. Our school gym is an amazing facility which we are extremely lucky to have, so it is always very special to hold the celebration of our sports where most trainings take place.
We are planning to bring all the sports awards which were previously awarded at the end of the year prize-giving to sports awards instead, so we can have a true celebration of every athlete within the school and their chosen sports. This means we will not only be handing out Sports Blues awarded to our highest achieving athletes; but we will also be handing out the sports trophies and prizes for region representatives, progress awards, promising athletes and most valuable athletes. We would love to have an even higher attendance rate at Sports Awards this year to support and celebrate our athletes and their amazing achievements.
The Captains of each sport have been asked to take photos and record footage of their highlights of the season to play at Sports Awards. This will not only give insight to the audience about their achievements for the season; it will also give insight to the younger athletes within our school wanting to know more about the various sports on offer at Columba. It’s a great way to show how much fun we have within our various sports teams at Columba, and this could spark an interest in our young, aspiring athletes. We are always looking to develop our Junior students as soon as we can so they can develop their skills and build a bond with our Senior athletes. They can then follow in their footsteps in representing the College with pride and true sportsmanship.
Reflecting on our year of sport over 2019, we have again had an amazingly high participation rate in all sports, in which our athletes have demonstrated true skill and respect for their teammates and their opponents. A large amount of credit is due to every coach, manager, parent and umpire who has poured their time into training and developing our athletes at Columba. Seasons of sport would not take place without such help, so we will be celebrating their commitment to our teams on the night of Sports Awards as well.
It has been a true honour to represent the College and have the opportunity to support such an amazing group of athletes in their endeavours. We are looking forward to a great night of achievement at Sports Awards on 24 October 2019.
