Reading Marathon 2022 - Saturday, 21st May

Mrs E Harris —

To round off the excitement of Book Week in Term 2, we will be holding a 12-hour Reading Marathon in the Library for Years 7-13. Express interest now!

Head librarians Hannah Cole and Krisha Joshi, along with Community Prefect Rosie Davison are organising this year's Reading Marathon. Last year's event was a huge success and the former team of Tessa Smith, Isabella Cameron, Poppy Edmond, Natalie McDonald and Cailyn Dey are back to help the Year 13s. In 2021, we had 54 students attend the event and were able to raise over $4,000! I'm sure this year's event will be just as wonderful with Hannah, Krisha and Rosie at the helm. Funds raised are used to create and publish Columba's own literary journal, 'Song of Wings'. It was really exciting to see our students' art and writing in print last year and this year we're aiming for an even more impressive edition!

The Marathon will run from 9am - 9pm, during which time the Columba library will become a reading haven, complete with soft, atmospheric music, throw pillows, fairy lights and a hot chocolate & biscuits station. Readers are encouraged to wear their onesies/pyjamas and bring their favourite blankets, soft toys and pillows from home.

Students who sign up will ask family and friends to sponsor them a dollar amount for each hour that they read. Twelve hours is a long time, even for the most enthusiastic reader, so it will be interesting to see how many of us will last the distance! Parents and family are invited to come along and read with us, even if they only want to pop in for an hour to show support.
