Over the weekend of 10th - 11th April 2021, the North Island Diving Championships were held in Hamilton and Columba College was strongly represented in a field of aspiring springboard and platform divers.

Four members of the Columba Diving Team competed at the North Island Diving Championships over this past weekend. Georgia Houghton (Year 9), Elizabeth Dearden (Year 8), Bella Meek-Mallam (Year 10), and Sophie Derbyshire (Year 10) attended the event and came away with some fantastic results. 

Georgia Houghton demonstrated some amazing dives from the 1m Springboard and 5m platform to win Gold ribbons in these events. She also won a Silver ribbon in the 3m springboard event. Georgia competed in the Skills Level 2 category.

Elizabeth Dearden showed her proficiency with heights, nailing a Silver ribbon in the Platform category, together with Bronze ribbons in both the 1m and 3m springboard events. Elizabeth competed in the Skills Level 3 category.

Bella Meek-Mallam completed in the Age Group B category (1m event) and demonstrated 7 amazing dives in 5 different positions - front, back, inwards, reverse and a twist.

Sophie Derbyshire had a great weekend, taking out Gold Medals in the Age Group B 1m, 3m and Platform events.

The team was supported by Year 12 Columba College student Victoria Dearden, who travelled with the team and judged many events over the course of the weekend. Well done and thank you to Victoria!

The Columba College Diving team will be travelling to Auckland over the October school holidays to compete in the National Secondary Schools Diving competition.
