Five Columba College Primary and Intermediate Triathlon teams entered the Otago Triathlon Champs at Owaka on Thursday 10th November, and some amazing results were achieved!

Following some impressive results at the Dunedin Schools Triathlon Champs at Port Chalmers earlier this term, Columba was able to enter five strong triathlon teams in the Otago Champs held in the Catlins yesterday.

Year 8 Teams: The Columba Rockets (Harlow La Hood, Ruby Nicolson and Zoe Mackenzie); Columba Strikers (Mae Daggar, Jessie Roff and Beth Elder).

Year 7 Team: Columba Blaze (Anna Riley, Mia North and Alice Jefferies)

Year 6 Team: Columba Comets (Poppy Hussey, Lara Lowe and Sophie Wellington)

Year 5 Team: Columba Stars (Matilda Brown, Abrielle Nicol and Gwendoline Somerville)

A fantastic day of competition for all our Columba teams, with the weather playing its part, and the community of triathletes and their supporters creating a wonderful vibe to showcase multisport at its best!

A huge congratulations to our Columba Comets - Poppy Hussey (Run), Lara Lowe (Bike), and Sophie Wellington (Swim) for claiming first place in the Year 6 Girls Teams Event. The Comets team was a whopping 2.34mins ahead of their nearest competitors as they crossed the finish line. What an impressive result! The Columba Rockets - Harlow La Hood (Run), Ruby Nicolson (Bike), and Zoe MacKenzie (Swim) dominated the Year 8 Girls race to also claim victory and the top spot on the podium for the Otago Champs Title. The Rockets completed their triathlon in an impressive time of 33.58mins. Fabulous results, Columba!

All teams should be extremely proud of their efforts yesterday, with the Strikers team coming home in 4th place, only 1.13mins behind the winners in the Year 8 Girls division. The Columba Blaze also had an impressive day placing 3rd in the Year 7 Girls, in a time of 35.34mins, and our young Columba Stars team coming home in 5th place in the Year 5 Girls division!! Well done everyone!

What a superb day for Columba College! Congratulations to all of our athletes, and a huge thank you to the wonderful group of parent supporters who transported, managed and coordinated the Columba teams at this fantastic event. The future of multisport at Columba College is looking extremely bright!
