Year 8 PALS Training

Miss D Turnbull —

On Monday 29 June, eight Columba College Year 8 Students attended a PALS (Physical Activity Leaders) Workshop morning, run by Sport Otago, which was held at the Edgar Centre.

The PALs leadership programme is for students who have proven themselves to be reliable, organised, friendly, responsible, have a love for sports and activities and enjoy helping others. The PALS role is to encourage other students to participate in sport and physical activity. The training is intended to be an introduction into what it means to be an effective leader and will give students an opportunity to design as well as explore a variety of physical activity options and ideas that can be brought back to school.

Some of the benefits of attending the training was to develop leadership skills and provide an opportunity for students to accept more responsibility, appreciation and respect from teachers and fellow students.

The selected students for 2020 were: Madison Logan-Ferris, Madison Flutey, Charli Sinclair, Taylor Skevington, Ciara Paterson, Sophia Body, Lila Rhodes and Aiva Pattinson-Trent.

All participants represented Columba College incredibly well, leading from the front, asking questions and helping those from other schools, with lots of dove pride.
