Classics Week 2022
National Classics Week returns to Columba from the 20th - 24th of June, and this year’s edition is shaping to be more colossal than a great big ampitheatre in the middle of Rome.
There will be a cornucopia of activities, include a meme-making competition, Classically-themed Wordles, and colouring-in, where entrants are asked to put a 21st century spin on Greek heroes. And, with prizes not only for the best entries nationwide but also for the best that Columba has to offer, there is enough to please plebs and patricians alike!
In conjunction with the Drama department, there will also be a showing of Year 10 Drama’s take on Aristophanes' comedy The Frogs, taking place on Tuesday, June 21st at 5:30 pm. This will be followed by a performance of Medea on June 28th at 5:30, thereby ensuring the ancient antics continue towards the month’s end.
Finally, to round out what will be a Herculean week, there will be a Classics Quiz in the school library on Thursday lunchtime, with prizes for the top teams, as well as the best team names. Be sure to check out the special library display while you’re there! If any of the above was all Greek to you, please check in with your whanau/form teachers, watch the notices, or ask Mr Hayden for more details.
Salve!
