Cooking workshop

Ms I Ding —

It has been a busy week for all preparing for exams, however students learning Chinese have had some fun.

Year 10 and Year 11 Chinese classes had a 'cooking workshop' to learn how to make and cook Chinese pan fried dumplings with Ms Ding. Students researched different dumpling recipes and chose their favourite pork dumpling recipe to use. Each class made their dumplings successfully and enjoyed their dumplings. In Chinese cuisine, dumplings jiǎo zi (饺子) are believed to bring good fortune, as they look like gold bars. We wished students good luck in their coming exams.

Year 13 Chinese students had a 'Tangyuan cooking workshop'. Tangyuan tāngyuán (汤圆) is sweet rice balls with different sweet fillings. They are traditionally eaten during festivals or weddings, or any occasions such as family reunion. Tangyuan also means 'a dream becomes true'. We make Tangyuan to wish Year 13 students to have a good future and their dreams come true.
