End of Year festivities in Languages

Miss C Gardiner —

The end of a school year is a special time for students. In languages we love to get into the festive spirit and celebrate with traditions, food and arts & crafts. Here is what the Middle School have been up to in Languages after school examinations.

Year 8, 9 and 10 Chinese classes had a 'cooking workshop' to learn how to make and cook a Chinese dish with Ms Ding. Students researched the dumplings and fried noodles’ recipes and decided to cook their favourite pork dumplings and chicken fried noodles. Each class successfully cooked their delicious Chinese food and enjoyed them at the cooking workshop. Hopefully, they will cook these yummy dumplings and fried noodles over the holidays.

Y7-10 German have been busy finishing projects and celebrating Christmas. This year the Year 7 and Year 8 students finished the year with a presentation about a state or a town in Germany. As a class, we enjoyed our “journey” through Germany by watching movies and photos of castles, mouth-watering traditional food, attractions and regional celebrations around the year in Germany. The students showed amazing research skills and learned a lot about German culture and language from the North to the South. We would like to thank Ms Renner for taking us this term and wish Mr Moore a heartfelt Auf Wiedersehen and a full recovery.

Middle school French students chose to do different activities; however, everyone wanted to make decorations. So, we painted pinecones and turned them into beautiful Christmas tree ornaments and we cut out snowflakes and enjoyed each other's company while listening to Christmas music. Once the class was decorated, we celebrated Christmas together. One class decided to celebrate with a spin on the Southern French tradition of 13 Christmas desserts and the other had a 'Nailed it' competition to make the very festive Croquembouche!

All the best for a happy and safe summer and Merry Christmas from the Columba Languages department!
