Matariki Celebrations at the Boarding House
The boarders marked the end of term on Wednesday evening with a dinner celebrating Matariki. Matariki heralds the start of the Māori new year.
The dining room was organised with twinkling lights to resemble the winter sky and adorned with flax flowers made by a team of boarders led by Taylor and Tylah.
Guests for the evening included Year 9 day student Rīpeka, who wrote and delivered the karakia to bless the food. Our catering team outdid themselves, preparing a feast of traditional Māori kai, which included mussels, hangi, fried bread and feijoa sorbet. The best part of the evening was the singing led by Year 8 boarder, Portia. What a gift she has!
Thanks Belinda, Stella, Harriet, Angeleah and Portia for a great evening. Happy holidays to you all!
