Course Outline
Level 2 Biology is a general Biology course covering important aspects of life processes and living things.
During the year students study:
Cell Biology
Genetic Variation and Change
Gene Expression
The internal assessments involve personal investigations in the laboratory and an information research assessment.
The external assessments test the students’ knowledge and ability to explain biological principles. A good command of the language of Biology is required to perform at Merit and Excellence levels in these examinations. Therefore, students will be expected to learn a significant amount of Biology vocabulary for each topic.
Any student who thinks that she might wish to continue with a Biology-related course at University should also consider taking Chemistry and Physics if she is likely to be entering for any of the Health Sciences or Biochemistry.
Level 2 students will purchase a study manual.
The final number of credits offered is subject to change and will be confirmed at the beginning of the year.
Prerequisite
15 credits in Level 1 Science (including Genetics 1.3) are required to enter Level 2 Biology. Alternatively, students may discuss entry into the course with the HoD of Biology.
