Otago Secondary Schools Tennis Championships

Mrs G Beardmore —

Columba College students Bethany Nicholson, Phoebe O'Donnell, Erin O'Neill and Nora Paicu took part in the Otago SS Tennis Championships at Logan Park this week. All players enjoyed a wonderful day of competition in the sun. Some excellent matches were played and the friendly competitive vibe made for a very enjoyable day of sport on the courts.

Columba College entered two tennis teams this year in the Girls' Championship competition. Bethany Nicholson (Year 12) and Phoebe O'Donnell (Year 11) paired up to form the Columba Navy team, while Erin O'Neill (Year 11) paired with Nora Paicu (Year 11) to form the Columba Green team.

With an early start of 8.30am for the first matches of the day, the dawn of blue sky and bright sun was greatly welcomed and players arrived early and raring to go.

Both Columba teams came up against some strong talent in St. Hilda's, but managed to secure a number of fantastic wins during their skilful and evenly matched games. Playing both singles and doubles matches in a round robin format, it was a very full and no doubt tiring day of competition for all teams!

Some fabulous tennis was witnessed on Wednesday, and Columba College came away happy after securing 2nd place in the Girls' Championship Division. Well done, Bethany, Phoebe, Erin and Nora - you represented Columba with professionalism and pride. Hopefully the tournament will grow even further over the years to come and more students will get involved in a sport that really can be played for a lifetime. Well done, girls!
