Winter Sport in 2020

Mrs Graamans —

Sporting bodies are working closely with Sport New Zealand to help provide information to the public on when they might be able to begin any form of competition in 2020, and if so, what this might look like.

Contact or Team sport competitions will not start at this stage, until New Zealand reaches Alert Level 1.  In the meantime individuals have been advised to stay healthy and active in their own personal bubbles.

Some of our sporting bodies have released programs for individuals to follow; so if you would like some ideas to keep active have a look at the sport that interests you.

Some of the sports I have been following;

Netball:  The NetballSmart website provides simple programmes to support staying fit and healthy, www.netballsmart.co.nz alongside the NetFit NZ platform at https://netfitnetball.com.au/netfit-clinic-nz/.  Netball South also post daily skills, drills and activities that you can perform at home.

Hockey:  Otago Hockey Association have been posting daily circuit and fitness activities to keep you fit and ready for the season, have a look at the Otago Hockey Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/OtagoHockeyAssociation

If you go to the Vantage Black Sticks Facebook page our top Black sticks players also provide you with advice and activities to stay healthy and fit in lockdown.

Football South are offering coaches, players, parents and referees the opportunity to learn about player welfare, philosophy and practices via webinars.  Go to the Football South website and look for the  fit 4 football webinars.

Kelly Sports Dunedin have been posting videos each day on their Facebook page to give children and parents ideas on how to get their children active during lock down.  Click the below link to view the folder:
