Keio Students adventure around Otago Peninsula with Ms Lauren Stirling

Last Saturday on a beautiful summer’s day, the five visiting Keio students from Japan spent the day exploring the Otago Peninsula. The first stop was visiting the Albatross Colony at Taiaroa Head. Here Mayu, Miyu, Maori, Tamaki and Yukako joined a tour where they learned about the life cycle of the majestic Northern Royal Albatross before they were taken to the observation area to see albatross up close. The girls were able to see young adolescent courting pairs as well as parents and their young chicks up close as New Zealand Fur Seals swam in the waters below the heads.

The second stop was Larnach Castle via Harbour Cone. At the Castle, the Keio girls were able to enjoy a traditional High Tea in the beautiful surroundings of the Larnach Castle Ballroom. Here the girls enjoyed dainty sandwiches, mini scones, petite sweets and cups of refreshing tea in gorgeous bone china teacups. A tour of the Castle and gardens followed with commentary on the tragic life of William Larnach before finishing up the day with photos in front of the world-famous manor house

Before Mayi, Miyu, Maori, Tamaki and Yukako return to Japan, they will travel on the Taieri Gorge Train and enjoy a Kiwi BBQ with other International Students at the International House. We hope the Keio students will enjoy the rest of their stay in Dunedin.
