Oxford Bound

Mrs C Sinclair —

Sophie (Year 13) is bound for England to attend Oxford University!

In June, Sophie (Year 13) applied for the Oxbridge Summer Scholars Scholarship. To apply, Sophie wrote an essay and completed a video essay. After this, she took part in a video call with the course organiser. A total of 35 people were chosen from across the world.

There were two different courses offered, either a science-based course or the Humanities, Social Impact, and Entrepreneurship course which Sophie chose. Both courses are designed to imitate what studying at Oxford would be like, but in two weeks rather than a term. The students stay in one of the colleges, eat all the meals there, and have various experts across different fields come to talk to them. The classes are set up as either lectures or groups of eight or four with the experts. Many of the specialists are connected to Oxford but some are coming in especially for the course. The classes vary from AI to a course on creative writing. There will also be two formal dinners and on the weekend they get a tour around Oxford and Cambridge.

In 2024, Sophie intends to take a 'gap year' to travel and work. We look forward to hearing all about her experiences at Oxford and wish her all the best.
