Reading Marathon - Saturday, 15th May

Mrs E Harris —

To round off the excitement of Book Week in Term 2, we will be holding a Reading Marathon in the Library for Years 7-13. Express interest now!

Year 10 students Tessa Smith, Isabella Cameron, Poppy Edmond, Natalie McDonald and Cailyn Dey are helping to organise a Reading Marathon to raise funds for the publication of the inaugural issue of Columba's own literary journal, 'Song of Wings'. The group are avid readers and believe strongly that reading is "crucial to a well-spent childhood".

The Marathon will run from 9am - 9pm, during which time the Columba library will become a reading haven, complete with soft, atmospheric music, throw pillows, fairy lights and a hot chocolate & biscuits station. Readers are encouraged to wear their onesies/pyjamas and bring their favourite blankets and pillows from home.

Students who sign up will ask family and friends to sponsor them a dollar amount for each hour that they read. Twelve hours is a long time, even for the most enthusiastic reader, so it will be interesting to see how many of us will last the distance!

We are thrilled that The University Book Shop (UBS) has generously offered to sponsor this event. UBS will be providing one book token/year level for the student who reads the most over the day and is also sponsoring a hot chocolate and biscuit station to keep up the readers' strength. Parents and family are invited to come along and read with us, even if they only want to pop in for an hour to show support.
