Writing Workshop for Pride Week

Ms J Lach —

Celebrating National School's Pride Week through creative writing.

Rainbow Youth held a writing workshop during National School’s Pride Week to highlight LGBTQIA+ perspective and themes in creative writing.

The workshop was run by Dana Wister (pictured above), who discussed a range of writing concepts and ideas. Participants were encouraged to consider how each individual brings their own unique perspective and interpretation of ideas depending on their values and experiences; therefore, Rainbow-themed writing is going to contain a distinct identity and different associations that we may miss or look past.

One of the activities included a 5 minute writing task where the concept theme was ‘they never saw it coming’ and the colour theme was ‘yellow’. It was interesting to see how participants wrote completely different stories depending on their association with both the colour and the phrase. It was truly a fun and very creative experience!
