World Vision Junior Youth Conference

Dr J Macleod —

Hebe Song, Lia Fisher and Jemima Hortop-Blair were our representatives at World Vision's inaugural Junior Youth Conference.

A highlight of the day was the 'Fishing Game'. Students had to 'fish' for magnetic fish in their pond. The different pond groups competed to be the most productive 'fishers'. What students didn't realise, was that some ponds had more resources than others. Initial over-fishing meant that fish were not 'replenished' in the pond. As a result, some groups weren't able to get enough fish, no matter how hard they were willing to work.

The speakers and activities were excellent, and World Vision is to be commended for this new initiative (made possible by a generous bequest). Lia, Jemima and Hebe represented Columba very well and came away excited and inspired. They already have plans to raise funds for the 40 Hour Famine!
