Knitted Blankets for Presbyterian Support

Dr Macleod —

Many thanks to all who have knitted peggy-squares or donated wool or knitting needles to this project. The project is ongoing and donations are still very welcome.

Every winter, there are those in our community who struggle to find adequate winter bedding. Last year, we made eight hand-knitted blankets for clients of Presbyterian Support. This year, we hope to donate even more blankets, especially given the growing financial need of many in our communities.

Knitted peggy-squares and donations of wool or knitting needles can be dropped at the school office or given to Dr Jennifer Macleod or Mrs Belinda van der Zande.

We appreciate donations of:

  • 8-ply (double knitting) wool; we prefer yarns with a high wool content, but will accept all donations
  • 5.5mm (UK size 5; US size 9) knitting needles or similar

We also use 4-ply wool and 4.0mm knitting needles to make baby blankets.

To knit a peggy-square:

  • Start with some 8-ply (double knitting) wool and 5.5mm knitting needles
  • Cast on 40 stitches
  • Keep knitting in garter stitch (all rows using the same plain stitch) until you have a square
  • Cast off
