South Island Athletic Champs

Miss Turnbull —

"My coach said I run like a girl, so I said... If he ran a little faster, he could too!"

Over the weekend of 23 - 25 March, 13 girls represented Columba at the South Island Secondary Schools Athletics Champs in Timaru. Sports Prefect – Ellie Duncan led the team in results for the senior girls with a 2nd in the 300 hurdles, 3rd in the 400m and 4th in the 200m.

Most girls gained top eight placings but two notable performances were Jamie Reid and Rachael Turner both achieving personal bests.

The Golden Spike was awarded to Stephanie Smith who achieved 3rd in the senior hammer, but then went on to break the Columba College record in the senior javelin with a 4th placing and distance of 28.69m
