Great Day to Race!

Miss D Turnbull —

On Sunday the 6th of March, 13 Columba students participated in the South Island Secondary Schools Triathlon/Duathlon Championships held in Oamaru.

It was a great day out with a short sharp course making the competitors go hard and fast. It was great that everyone was able to compete in these challenging times.

In the Senior Duathlon Individuals, Jaime Reid fought hard right to the end coming away with an awesome 2nd place. Columba Team One, consisting of Lila Rhodes and Charli Sinclair battled it out to the end with their determination and competitiveness coming away with the win in the Intermediate Duathlon Team Event. Rahwa Steel and Sophie Thode also managed to take the win in the Junior Duathlon Team event after a hard-fought cycle and run.

In the Individual Intermediate Triathlon Melanie Button and Anya Rhodes put on a great show having a sprint off at the finish line after a fabulous race from both students. Melanie had slightly more fuel left in the tank taking 2nd place, and Anya claimed 3rd. Our Junior team consisting of Lyla Bowering, Shanti Kara, and Kiana Brown gave it their all and were full of smiles as they took out 2nd place in the Junior Triathlon Event. Finally, the Intermediate Triathlon Team Event Annie Dowling, Meg Cameron, and Maddie Taylor gained 5th place in a stacked field, showing great perseverance and grinding all the way to the end.

It was a great day out for everyone, gaining excellent results and enjoying friendly competition. Well done to all who competed and a special mention to our Multisport Captain Kayla Millar for her ongoing support.
