Weekly Wellbeing: Weather Dependant

Miss M George —

The winter months can take their toll on our wellbeing.

As the cold weather rolls around and the sun is nowhere to be seen, it can leave us all feeling a little down. The weather has a large impact on our mood, and on cloudy days when we are stuck inside from the rain certainly impacts our emotional wellbeing. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is characterised by depression and fatigue brought on by the winter months, affecting about 3% of the entire world population. Though you may not be one of the 3%, the winter months may still have an impact on your mental health. Studies show that significant weather changes, like the recent snow storm, drive people to stay inside and can therefore impact mood and happiness. All in all, if the weather has you feeling down and isolated from what you love, it is ok to step back and take time for yourself. Remember that we have the school counsellors, form teachers and our deans to talk to if needed. Also, if you want to learn more about SAD, visit the link here.

Just two more months to go and then hopefully the sun will come back to make our days a little bit brighter!
