Individual Pathways

Qualification: NCEA - Level 2 or 3

Course Outline

This is a vocational course for students who decide to take five subjects in Year 12 or four subjects in Year 13. It is also for students who may be looking at a specialised career path beyond school or who a specific need not catered for in the regular subjects offered at Columba. Each student will have a personalised learning programme that reflects their chosen career pathway. The aim is to be as flexible to cater for individual needs and aspirations.

Students have the option of taking a Te Kura correspondence NCEA course for a subject that is not offered at the college. They can opt to do an OSTC course on Fridays at Otago Polytechnic, and use Pathways to keep up with their other subjects. Alternatively, they could investigate unit standards offered by The Learning Place, Workplace First Aid, or SIT distance learning standards, although there is a limit to this last alternative per student as they are funded out of the school’s STAR budget.

Assessment

Internally assessed unit standards will be sourced in relation to each student’s individual learning programme with the following standards offered to all students as a starting point. The course expectation is that each student will gain a minimum of 20 credits towards NCEA Level 2 or 3.
