Senior Physical Education Duathlon

Mrs C Sinclair —

Over 40 of our senior PE students recently took part in a timed duathlon - read about it here.

Recently the Year 11 and Year 13 Physical Education classes took part in a timed duathlon as part of their course and after seven weeks training in class time. This duathlon took place down at the Otago Harbour early on a Monday morning, under good conditions.

Students completed a run that took them around Forsyth Barr Stadium (a few times), a bike along the harbour bike/walk track, followed by one final run. With the large contingent of parent helpers and supporters on hand the girls made smooth transitions and completed the course in some amazingly fast times and there were many proud (and exhausted) girls (and parents) at the completion of the duathlon.

This duathlon ran efficiently due to the parent help and to expertise of Ms Hope and Mrs Wafer. Student helpers (who were unable to participate) also assisted with marshalling and their efforts should be recognised also. This is the last time that Year 13 will take place in a duathlon as part of their course as it is an event that we have introduced into Year 11. We were very proud of the girls in the effort that they put into their training and into the duathlon itself.
