Tennis
Tennis at Columba this year has been through a number of changes as we said goodbye to many of our past and long standing players, and brought through a new group of junior players.
First match play opportunity for the year was the annual STAC exchange tournament. The team consisted of seven girls including, Laura Hamilton, Erin Duff, Sennah Lee, Kayla Godkin, Erin O’Neil, Gemma O’Donnell, Phoebe O’Donnell and Eva Macdougall. All the girls fought hard on the court with many long matches played. We came away with some wins, improving our results from previous years. It was so great to see everyone playing some exceptional tennis and enjoying themselves. The team this year bonded instantly and the older girls helped mentor the younger girls, giving them advice and supporting them throughout their matches.
Columba also entered a number of teams in the Thursday inter-school tennis competition. Both intermediate and senior teams entered, and throughout the competition the girls not only improved their skills and learnt more about the game, but met lots of new people, had heaps of fun and many laughs. Looking towards the future, Columba College has young players coming through with great ability and skill, so the school is confident that the sport will develop and gain momentum over the years to come. We are super excited with our new tennis dresses this year, which are part of the new Columba sports uniforms. Tennis at Columba is well supported by the school and we have many opportunities to play, and to improve our overall tennis game.
