Leavers' Service

Dr J Macleod —

How do you respond to change? Do you love spontaneity, adventure and challenge; or do you prefer a reliable, 'slow and steady' approach? These questions were posed to our Leavers during the school service last Wednesday.

It was wonderful to have whānau and guests present as we took this opportunity to acknowledge our school leavers. A number of prefects brought prayers and readings through the service. Alere Fammam badges were presented to students who received all of their schooling at Columba. Leavers received a school Bible, presented by the President of the Board of Governors, Dr Doug Hill, a school candle, presented by members of staff, and gifts from the Columba Old Girls' Association. Year 13 students reciprocated with a gift to the school: a blackboard wall for notices, creativity and student expression. A quartet of senior students sang 'Think On Me' and we enjoyed the opportunity to have corporate singing in our service.

During the message, we reflected on the readings and considered God's great creativity, which brings something fresh and life giving, and God's consistency and trustworthiness, even in changing times. We see that it is God's desire to bless and bring good into our lives, and to bring hope in areas where we have made mistakes.

Our school leavers go with the love and blessing of the Columba community.
