Uniform Standards in the Middle and Senior School

Mrs E Harris —

I have noticed that some students are in need of a reminder about how to wear our winter uniform correctly.

Spot uniform checks will be run over the remainder of Term 2. House points will be awarded to students who are wearing their uniform well, and green detention slips will be awarded to those with uniform infringements.

Please read these reminders carefully and check that your child's uniform and grooming meets our expectations:

  • Kilt length must be halfway down the calf - not on or above the knee
  • Over-the knee navy socks or navy tights must be worn with the kilts during winter term.
  • Navy or black crew socks (not white) are to be worn with trousers. Students are not to wear sports socks which leave the ankle exposed
  • Trouser length must cover the ankles when standing
  • Trousers must be purchased from the U-Shop or pre-approved by Mrs Duthie; 'skinny' pants and trackpants are not appropriate or acceptable
  • Columba hoodies and/or tracksuit jackets are not to be worn unless you are wearing sports uniform. They are not to be paired with kilts or uniform trousers
  • The Columba College winter jacket and scarf are not to be worn in class, assembly or chapel
  • Hair that reaches past the collar must be tied back; half-tied back styles are not permitted. Hair must not be let free when in public wearing Columba College sports or school uniform
  • Hair must be one tone that is natural in appearance. Ombre colouring or significant streaking of contrasting or noticeably different colours is not permitted
  • Students are not allowed to wear any make-up; students wearing make-up will be given hypoallergenic, alcohol-free wipes and asked to clean their faces
  • Students wearing nail varnish will be given nail varnish remover and asked to remove it immediately
  • No jewellery is permitted except for a discreet watch
  • Students may apply for a uniform slip if they wear a pendant with religious or cultural significance under their clothing; this must still be removed during PE and sports for health and safety reasons
  • Blazers must be worn and buttoned when walking in public or taking public transport while wearing Columba College school uniform
  • Shoes must be black, leather lace-ups for Years 7-13; shoes must be polished and in good condition
