Year 9 Ski Camp

Mr A Everett —

On the 2nd of August, 68 Year 9 students departed Columba College to head to Coronet Peak.

On the day of departure, the snow was pretty thin on the ground and reports from the field were not good. That night, however, we were treated to a reasonable dumping of snow, making ski conditions for the rest of the camp outstanding. After a bit of fun in the white stuff, it was time for bed as it was an early start the next day.

Each day students were given 2 hour lessons from the Coronet ski school to help learn or refine their skiing or snowboarding techniques. After this students were free to practise their skills on the mountain. It was amazing to watch the progress of the students, especially the beginners, throughout the week. The smiles on many of their faces said it all. The weather was amazing, the snow conditions excellent and the tobogganing skills pretty good too (although I am not sure whether it was the adults or students who were having the most fun!).

A big thank you goes to all of the adults who came on the trip. The students gain a lot from your involvement. A big thank you also to the students. With trips like these, it is important that everyone works together and has fun together. Most students got everything they could out of the trip. The Coronet Peak staff were very complimentary towards the students and how they conducted themselves.

We look forward to another great trip next year!
