New Zealand Secondary Schools 12 hour Adventure Race

Mr G Potter —

Following on from the success of our students in the Gore Adventure Race, we had two competitive teams take part in the NZ Adventure Race in Cromwell.

With an early wake up at 4.15am start, the Columba 1 team which consisted of Megan Maslin, Mara Bentley, Saskia Learmonth and Caitlin O’Brien, placed 3rd missing out on 2nd place by only 5 minutes. This team showed excellent sportsmanship by stopping for 15 minutes to help an injured girl. They completed the race in a total time of 9 hours and 19 minutes.

The Columba 2 team of Emily Prout, Phoebe Ozanne, Gemma and Phoebe O’Donnell completed the race in good spirits in spite of numerous set backs including 6 crashes (flipping over handle bars), broken chains and flat tires.

The race involved mountain biking, orienteering, abseiling and kayaking. Both teams completed the race with their full teams even with a few battle scars along the way!
