Success at Challenge Wanaka

Mrs G Beardmore —

Growing in popularity, Challenge Wanaka is a wonderful event for our secondary school aged athletes interested in triathlon and multisport adventures! Columba College has had teams participating in this amazing race for a number of years, and the breathtaking Central Otago landscape makes the event even more spectacular for all those involved.

Last Saturday we had a Columba College Team tackle the Challenge Wanaka Half which consisted of a 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21km run. The Columba girls competed incredibly well and it was great to see the young athletes participating with such determination, giving it their best shot in the tough conditions.

The Columba Team consisted of Emma (Swimmer), Melanie and Kayla (Cyclists), and Faith and Anya (Runners). They came away with an impressive 4th place overall in the Secondary Schools teams event, and were the 1st Female School Team. What a great achievement from this impressive group of dedicated young competitors!

Thank you to the Columba families for your ongoing support and commitment to multi sport at Columba. Your willingness to encourage and accompany your child to these events is immensely appreciated, and we are delighted that our students can get out there and be involved in the sports they love. Thank you also to Kayla for your communication and management around all things multi-sport!
