Sign Language Club

Miss S Mills —

It’s strange that one of New Zealand’s three official languages is barely taught in schools.

To rectify this, we’ve started a student-led club to learn more about New Zealand Sign Language and some of the culture around it.

Over the year, we’ve learnt how to talk about where we come from, how to introduce ourselves and, most importantly, how to tell people that we really like dragons.

It was really impressive to watch everyone improve. Some of us came in with a small amount of knowledge, and some of us came in with none at all! It was great because we all helped each other learn and progress.

We look forward to 2022, where we hope to expand our knowledge even more, and raise awareness around the school.
