Y8 Photo Competition

Mrs Walker —

As part of our Y8 camp in Fiordland the girls took photographs focusing on three categories: Plants, Animals and Human Impact on the Environment.

It is hoped that they will be motivated to enter their photographs in the annual Otago Museum Photography Competition.

Every student in Y8 submitted a photo in each section and these were put on display in the Intermediate Department. Our Photography teacher, Mr Shaw agreed to judge place-getters in each category and he even brought his Year 13 Photography class to gain their views.

We are very grateful to him and his class for the time spent adjudicating.

The results are:

Animals Category:

1st: Lauren Gibbens for her ‘Kea’.

2nd: Kate Baskerville for her ‘Seal’.

3rd: Madi Flutey for her ‘Duck’.

Plants Category:

1st: Ciara Paterson for her ‘New Growth on an Old Stump’.

2nd: Frankie McAuliffe for her ‘Flower close up with the narrow depth of focus’.

3rd: Zara Turner for her ‘Ferns crossing the deeper view into the bush’.

Human Impact on the Environment Category:

1st: Mia Englehutt for her ‘Blue Pipeline’

2nd: Ruby Woodham for her ‘Old Pipes and Wire Rope’.

3rd: Madi Logan Ferris for her ‘Swing Bridge’.

Teachers’ Choice: Kaja Maciaczyk – Plant.

Special Mention to Eleanor Wong for consistent strength across all three categories.
