Year 10 celebrates Mardi Gras

Miss C Gardiner —

A popular tradition in catholic countries is Carnival. The last day of the fun celebrations is called Mardi Gras.

In France this is usually celebrated with costumes and crêpes. Unfortunately for our friends in France this year, Mardi Gras was not able to be a public celebration. In Dunedin, skirting around lockdown levels, we ate our crêpes with glee albeit a little late.

Year 10 students dressed up during a fun lesson and practised giving and receiving directions. Two mazes were set up and students were paired with a buddy whom they led blindfolded through the maze. Depending on the person's imagined age, the directions have to be given in formal (VOUS) or informal (TU) language. This is something that we do not have to really think about in English apart from saying 'please' and 'thank you'.

Year 10s are also very excited about a special box of BONBONS (lollies) that have arrived from France. They are collecting BON POINTS (good points) to earn themselves their imported prize.
