2021 has been a challenging year for the International Department as the global pandemic continues to separate families and friends around the world.

As a consequence of COVID, many of our students are coming to the end of a second year without having been home. However, the students have showed astounding courage and fortitude, and through sheer hard work and determination have been very successful in achieving their goals.

At the beginning of the year, Mrs Medary and Ms Stirling took a group of girls up to Auckland, where they had a great time sightseeing and enjoying a range of activities and foods. Later, another group went up to Auckland with Mrs Medary and Mrs Hogg, which was a welcome break from the Dunedin winter. The International Ski Trip is always a highlight of the year and 2021 was no exception. Mr Murray led a group of intrepid skiers for a weekend of snow and fun.

Another highlight of the year was International Week. The girls presented a series of highly-polished cultural items at the International Assembly, as well as holding an International Snack Food Fair. Both staff and students were invited to the International House to sample a delicious range of foods from around the world. Also during International Week, we had an enjoyable Costume Day, where staff and students donned internationally-inspired costumes and outfits.

In July, the International Department moved to a new site in Katherine Buchan House and the girls have enjoyed putting their own mark on this bright and warm space.

Students have enjoyed many academic, cultural and sporting successes throughout 2021 and, despite being fewer in number, continue to make a thoroughly positive and invaluable contribution to life in the school.
