Antigone - Year 10 Midwinter Drama in the Caroline Freeman Theatre

Ms I Bercinskas —

Same stable, different horses.

Year 10 Drama and Year 10 Drama presented two versions of Antigone by Sophocles, edited by Charlotte Werner (Year 13 Arts Prefect). The modern version (Tuesday), set in a contemporary gang living room, was a tour de force with its twilight characters, headstrong Creon, and independent Antigone.

The classical version (Thursday), set in an idealised royal courtyard, was an impassioned and authentic depiction of the power of the spoken word with its sagely Teiresias, sensitive Ismene, and enraged Haemon.

Special mention must to go to staff who allowed other subject students to watch their peers, parents and whanau who attended the evening performances, John Hayden HoD Classical Studies, and Adelle Heineman, who delivered and collected four massive oil drums for Creon's living room underworld.

Finally, thank you to our wonderful chorus of Clara Peniamina, Tylah James, and Pippa Trotman, and our busy Light & Sound Director, Molly McClure.
