Columba competes in Equestrian

Mrs G Beardmore —

Equestrian is one of our many sports on offer at Columba College, and the school had a team of talented riders compete at a local event in Palmerston recently.

On Sunday 18th September, the Columba College Equestrian Team competed at the Palmerston inter-schools equestrian event. Columba fielded a strong team of five riders competing across four divisions. Each rider had to complete a dressage test, a show jumping round (including 50cm-80cm jumps), a team turnout and a team dress-up in which the Columba team dressed up as duck hunters. We won 3rd place for the dress-up. A special congratulations goes to Ruby Hefford who won her showjumping class.

Team members and their mounts were Kate Henton, riding Scottey, Grace Rushbrook, riding Dan the Man, Ruby Peden, riding Rosewood Fineprint, Sarah Stephens, riding Kennebrooke Jester, and Ruby Hefford, riding Hummer.

Despite a few mishaps, the Columba Equestrian team placed 3rd overall. We were supported by our fantastic parents and also by Principal, Mrs Duthie, and Ollie, her labrador, who spent the day watching us.

Special mention and huge congratulations to Ruby Hefford who in late August competed in the South Island Secondary Schools Equestrian event. She competed individually and placed 17th overall.

Well done, Columba Equestrian! This is an incredible sport to be involved in, requiring a high level of commitment and dedication. Thank you to Kate Henton for her dedication, and to the parents, families and supporters of our equestrian team.
