Coaching & Referee Workshop offers a wonderful opportunity for students

Mrs G Beardmore —

The Otago Secondary School Sports Association and Sport Otago came together with the Regional Sporting Organisations on Wednesday 15th March 2023 to offer a fantastic day of professional development and practical learning for student coaches and referees.

Columba College had a group of keen student coaches and referees attend the workshop at the Edgar Centre on Wednesday. The feedback around learning, improved confidence, and provision of support pathways for their coaching and officiating was extremely encouraging.

Practical and theoretical sessions were on offer across the day, with representatives from Otago Touch, Volleyball, Football, Hockey and Netball all offering practical advice and instruction to our students. 85 students from across a range of Dunedin Schools attended the course, and this also offered the Columba students a great opportunity to network with like-minded peers.

This year the Sports Department at Columba College has invited students interested in refereeing, umpiring or officiating sport to join a refereeing group. The goal is to provide support and development opportunities throughout the year, growing student confidence to get involved in the officiating side of sport.

Thank you to all our students who attended this workshop. We greatly value your contribution and commitment to sport at Columba College.
