Mrs C Nicol —

Read on to hear some high points from Mrs Nicol's week...

EXAMS!  Admittedly, sitting exams is hard work and possibly not what one would naturally refer to as a high point.  However, it has been astounding to observe the transition in the College.  The cacophony of festivities that enlivened our campus last week was replaced by a sense of "hush" as soon as senior students began their examinations on Monday.  These examinations have got off to a smooth start.  I hope all our seniors give them their best effort and can feel proud of their achievements for 2023.

With the seniors gone, it is great to see our Middle School students stepping up.  Many have been working hard to put boxes of goodies together to give to families in need this Christmas.  This is a fabulous example of our Columba values in action and it is awesome to see the Middle School paving the way on this. (The picture above is of the boxes being collected yesterday). Today in Chapel, several of our Year 10s did a wonderful job helping to lead the service.  It was a pleasure to have many of our Junior School students join in the service too.  We are looking forward to having combined Junior and Middle School Assemblies and Chapel Services for the rest of the year.

With Summer on its way, it's a joy to see the students having fun in the sunshine.  The development of what I can only describe as a "village" amidst the shrubs beside the ELT carpark, is delightful.  Today I was offered "food" from the "bakery" to pretend to eat (which prompted a lesson on how plants need to keep their leaves on in order to survive) and then guided through a myriad of pathways past all the "shops".  (If you look closely at the pictures, you will see the bark chips have been arranged to indicate the boundaries between areas).  I just love the imaginative play that is going on and how students of all ages are hanging out there together.  I have also heard great reports about the North Zone Athletics and know that day of running and jumping around was a high point for many of our students this week.  I hope you get a chance to enjoy the sunshine this weekend too!
