On Saturday 9th March 2024, the Otago Secondary Schools Athletics Champs was held at the Caledonian Ground with a large number of secondary school students from across the wider Otago region in attendance.

Columba College had a strong group of talented athletes participating in the Otago Athletics Championships on Saturday, and some amazing results were achieved across the board. Although the sun was shining for the event, the wind was bitterly cold, forcing athletes to spend extra time huddling under blankets, warming up for their events, and searching for warm drinks to warm the cockles!   

We are super proud of all our athletes who entered the champs, pushing themselves to achieve podium results and personal bests, and for getting out there and giving it a go!

Special mention goes to Columba's Year 13 athlete, Alex, who was one of a very small group of students from the region who achieved a new regional record in their event. An outstanding performance by Alex who threw the javelin a massive 41m in the Senior Girls Division! What a stellar effort!

Melanie (Year 12): Senior Girls Division. 1st 3000m (11:45.54).

Tila (Year 11): U16 Girls Division. 2nd Long Jump (4.60m); 1st 100m Sprint (13.58 secs); 1st 200m Sprint (28.53 secs).  

Kiana (Year 11): U16 Girls Division. 1st Shot Put (9.66m); 1st Discus (26.64m).

Lyla (Year 11): U15 Girls Division. 1st 100m Sprint (13.02 secs); 1st 200m Sprint (27.28 secs)

Freya (Year 10): U15 Girls Division. 1st Triple Jump (9.71m); 2nd 100m Sprint (13.57 secs); 2nd 200m Sprint (28.54 secs).  

Iris (Year 10): U15 Girls Division. 5th 800m (3:13.06 mins).

Harlow (Year 10): U14 Girls Division. 6th Long Jump (3.99m).

Sadye (Year 10): U14 Girls Division. 1st 100m Sprint (13.08 secs); 1st 200m Sprint (27.46 secs); 1st 400m (67.45 secs).

Anna (Year 9): U14 Girls Division. 3rd 800m (2:47.63 mins); 3rd 1500m (5:38.90 mins)

Aria (Year 9): U14 Girls Division. 3rd 400m; 4th Shot Put (8.22m).

Ruby M (Year 9): U14 Girls Division. 6th 200m; 7th Long Jump (3.87m).

Ruby G (Year 9): U14 Girls Division. 5th 800m (2:52.64).

Grace (Year 9): U14 Girls Division. 12th 800m (3:08.12).

Charlotte (Year 9): U14 Girls Division. 3rd Triple Jump (7.66m); 12th Long Jump.
