Ex Columba Pupil Accolades
2018 Year 13 Leaver Meg Breen has been selected in the NZ U18 Sevens Team to compete next weekend in the World Sevens School Tournament held in Auckland.
This is an incredible achievement by such a talented star. Meg captained our Senior A Sevens team in both 2017 and 2018 to consecutive Otago Secondary School titles and remained undefeated throughout both seasons (this legacy is still living on for the third year running in 2019). She was identified through playing at the 'Red Bull Ignite Sevens Camp' recently held in Auckland. Players from all over the country apply to be part of the programme which involves 4 days of gruelling fitness tests, coaching clinics, skilled challenges and ends with a mini tournament where 4 teams are created and playing a round robin prior to the final. Meg's team completed the round robin play undefeated before eventually going down in the final to the past winners and last year's title holders.
Meg was also part of the 2019 Otago Spirit rugby team who won the Farah Palmer Cup Championship this season and is now studying a Bachelor of Applied Science.
Meg has the goal of being courageous and stepping outside of her comfort zone. She praises the opportunities she has been given through her schooling at Columba and hopes to continue making her friends, family and teammates proud. Her passion, competitiveness and drive to excel in whatever she is doing is admirable and Columba College looks forward to following her successes throughout the future. Best of luck from all of us Meg!
