Senior School Prize Giving

Mrs L Piebenga —

On Wednesday 1 November we celebrated the many and notable achievements of our 2023 Senior School students.

Our Senior Prize Giving saw the Marsh Sports Centre converted into a space of celebration. This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our Year 11-13 students' academic achievements across 2023.

We were fortunate to have Columba Junior School alumnus, Dr Xaviour Walker, address us as our guest speaker. Dr Walker talked us through his journey and key learnings that have led to his numerous accolades across both national and international scales.  His key messages/tips gave students plenty of pearls of wisdom that will no doubt add to their own personal development as many embark on a new chapter in tertiary education. We are very thankful for Dr Walker's time and inspiration.

As we celebrated the achievements of our outgoing Prefects and Year 13 students, we also announced some of our Prefects for 2024. Congratulations to Zara who will hold the position of Head Prefect. She will be very capably supported by her two Deputy Prefects, Milla and Monet. We know that the platform and example set by the Year 13 team of 2023, will inspire these three students to lead the team of 2024 Year 13 students. Tiakaka prefect, Elloise, was also acknowledged for the exceptional role she has carried out this year. She handed over the Tiakaka pounamu to the 2024 incoming Tiakaka prefect, Amy.

Dr Doug Hill, Chair of Governors reflected on the 2024 year for the College, and Mrs Julia Scott, Chair of the Board of Schools highlighted what it means to be a Columba student. We also enjoyed a musical item performed beautifully by Year 12 student, Grace.

The full list of award winners is attached. A special mention goes to Briar who was awarded the Fergus Ring for the best all-round student, Bridgette who was named Proxime Accessit Dux and to our Duces, Mabel and Zoe.

Congratulations to all our senior students who have continued to challenge themselves to reach their potential. This Prize Giving concluded our recognition events that truly showed what talented, inspiring and hard-working students we have. Congratulations to all our Senior School students. We are incredibly proud of you!
