Columba compete in Inter-School Squash Champs

Mrs G Beardmore —

On Friday 2nd September Columba College entered an inter-school squash competition in Dunedin, and the Sports Department is extremely proud of the efforts of all those involved.

With a number of school teams from Cromwell, Lawrence and the Dunedin wider area entering into the Championship tournament, four Year 10 Columba students recently took part in the inter-school squash tournament held at the Squash Otago Courts in Kaikorai Valley.

Melanie Button, Crystal Chiang and Grace Rushbrook made up a team to represent Columba College, and had a great day of competition claiming second place in the teams division. Being awarded with silver, behind an extremely strong and more experienced Cromwell team, was a very impressive result for Columba. Well done, girls!

Melanie, Crystal and Grace went on to compete in the individual event with new student Oil Pathchotinont, who has already demonstrated her skills on the Badminton court for Columba College. Melanie Button claimed 1st place in the Mixed B division, while Oil had a very impressive tournament and took out 1st place in the Girls A division!! What an amazing result for international student Oil, who had only been on court twice before this competition. What an extremely talented racquet sports star!

Congratulations, Columba College. A superb day on the courts representing your school. We are very proud of you all.
