Success at the Kids Lit Quiz

Mrs Walker —

Columba College entered two teams into the Kids Lit Quiz this year on 12 March - one from Year 7 and one from Year 8.

The quiz was held at DNI with about 20 teams competing using their knowledge of books to answer the questions.

Questions were divided into categories and the teams had to choose the one they thought they knew most about. This became their nominated round to double their points. Categories were: witches, teachers, statues, prisoners, plants - to name a few.

Between each round the students could answer questions to win themselves $5 and members of the audience - $10. It was a very exciting day as the Year 7 team was tied in first place with The Terrace School in Alexandra. In a sudden death play off the opposing team answered incorrectly and our Year 7 team was correct – giving them the winning place for the Otago region.

The team of Clara Ballantyne, Tessa Smith, Grace Hill and Natalie McDonald will travel to Wellington on 10 June to compete in the Nationals with $1, 000 to help with travel costs. In the Nationals, teams from every region in New Zealand will compete for the top place and the winner will then represent New Zealand in the World Champs.

The Year 7 team will now be very busy reading every type of book they can, to do well in Wellington. We are very proud of them and wish them all the best of luck on their next stage in the competition.
