Genius Hour – Year 7

Mrs C Cheyne —

Over the past 2-3 weeks, in our final English unit for the year, the girls have worked on a passion project, in time set aside for ‘Genius Hour’.

The brief was to choose something they were passionate about or something new they wanted to learn and there were three ‘rules’:

  • To research something
  • To create something
  • To present it in an appropriate way

To say their passions and their ideas were wide and varied would be an understatement! It was astonishing to see what was accomplished and produced in the time available. Some examples of their projects included: making a model of a potential neurology ward at Dunedin hospital, beginning a lollipop business, creating clay cats, writing and recording an amazing original song, and even writing a paper on the influence of Russia in the Russo-Japanese War.

The photos below showcase some of the great projects.
