Kia ora koutou katoa

Ms A Rose —

It was a real privilege for both the Junior and Senior Kapa Haka to have the opportunity to share some of the waiata we have been learning during assembly this week.

The Junior group sang two waiata. The first was our school karakia in the form of a hymn. This was transposed by Serenity Nielsen’s family in 2013. The second waiata was “Toia Mai”. This is a song that speaks of honouring The Treaty of Waitangi and it is a call for unity in Aotearoa.

The Senior Kapa Haka performed a waiata poi called “Whakarongo ki te Ruru Koukou” which means “Listen to the Call of the Owl”.

This assembly was a wonderful opportunity for our Kapa Haka students and they appreciated the support of the whole school for this special mahi.

Both groups are looking forward to further performance opportunities, and the Junior Kapa Haka is particularly excited about wearing their new uniforms very soon.

Kia pai te wāhanga e heke mai, koutou katoa. Have a good term, everyone.

Ngā mihi,

Ms Rose
