Year 10 Drama’s online snippet of Euripides’ Medea
With one final online class, Year 10 Drama dressed up and performed the play, ‘Medea’ over a Google Meet.
They’re set to perform this later in Term 2, as part of Columba’s Autumn Season of Theatre. Overcoming many challenges such as laggy internet, siblings and pets wanting to be extras and trying to act to a screen, we were able to perform five pages from ‘Medea’ and give you a taster of what to look forward to later in the term.
Medea is a play written by Euripides and was first performed in 431 BCE. Medea was betrayed by her husband when he decided to marry the King of Corinth’s (Creon) daughter. King Creon decides to exile Medea and her children, so she can’t do anything bad to Jason or his new wife. However, King Corinth gives Medea one more day to pack up her things, but Medea uses this time to execute her revenge...
Part 1. Directed by Anise Maclean

Medea has been crying inside her house for hours as she has found out that she is being exiled and her husband, Jason, is marrying a princess. Jason comes to confront Medea.
Part 2. Directed by Bethan Hughes
Actors: Bethan Hughes, Heidi Palmer, Faith Courtney, Sophie Boyle, Zara Radel
Medea is still in her confrontation with Jason and where they are yelling and arguing. Then we continue on to the next act. In this act, we open with Medea talking to Aegus, a king from a neighboring kingdom about her problems and his as well.

Medea is having a conversation with a close friend about both their problems, consisting of Aegeus not being able to have children and Medea being hurt by Jason.
