Team Rowing in Twizel

Miss Millie Scott —

It has been a busy summer for Columba rowers with a number of regattas, training camps and gaining some fabulous results.

January has been a busy month for the Columba College rowing squad with a senior camp at Lake Dunstan and a week-long training camp following the Canterbury Champs in Twizel. At the camps, the girls were put through their paces in very hot conditions training on the water 2 to 3 times a day as well as on land training and even a triathlon in 28-degree heat. The coaches were also able to complete some seat racing where girls compete for seats in the top boats. The hard work at these camps was rewarded with fantastic results at the South Island Club Rowing Champs. This was the first regatta where medals were up for grabs. Columba came away with a gold, two silver and two bronze medals. There was some really tight racing and it will be exciting to see the results at the next regattas as we continue our training in the coming month.
