Columba College student represents NZ at School Sport Australia Diving Championships

Mrs G Beardmore —

Year 9 Columba student, Elizabeth Dearden, attended the Australian School Sport Diving Champs in Brisbane recently, and Columba is extremely proud to celebrate her results!

Elizabeth Dearden (Year 9) was selected to be part of a 14-strong NZ secondary school diving team to represent NZ in springboard diving at the Australian Schools Diving Championships, held at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre recently (19th - 25th November, 2023).

Elizabeth competed in the 14-year-old girls' springboard competition, in both the 1-metre and 3-metre springboard divisions. In a field of 21 athletes, Elizabeth came a very respectable 9th place overall, and was the highest placed New Zealand diver.

Team New Zealand consisted of 14 athletes, ranging in ages from 11 to 15 years. Elizabeth was thrilled to represent both her school and her country and considering it was her first international diving competition, it was an absolute success. Elizabeth's achievement has placed her well on the path to future international competitions to be held in Sydney, Adelaide and Singapore next year.

Congratulations, Elizabeth. What a wonderful acknowledgement of your dedication and commitment to the sport of springboard diving! The Columba College Sports Department looks forward to following your progress with interest over the years ahead.
